abstract
Submandibular sialadenitis is a submandibular gland inflammation, less prevalent than parotid gland inflammation. Acute sialadenitis often manifests as sudden-onset pain and swelling and is typically caused by bacterial or viral infections. Recurrent or persistent salivary gland swelling, usually without erythema, is known as chronic sialadenitis. This is typically caused by obstruction, such as calculi or stricture. We present a case of a 22-year-old male presented with painful swelling over the left submandibular area for the past 12 days prior to admission. He noticed there was a swelling over his left submandibular and is diagnosed with recurrent left submandibular sialadenitis with sialolithiasis. With proper treatment, most cases resolve without complications. Recurrent episodes or untreated obstruction can lead to chronic sialadenitis, abscess formation, or gland fibrosis. Despite the abundance of available studies on sialolithiasis, which is a generally rare condition overall, more study is needed for earlier treatment plan.
